Droogfontein Communal Property Association Partnership

The Droogfontein Community consists of 104 families mostly living in Riverton, Kimberley and Barkly West. The Community own the neighbouring Droogfontein farm that consist of irrigation land and grazing pastures for cattle. Many of the beneficiaries of the Community are employed by MALU and have been with the company for many years.

In 2012 a joint venture between MALU, the Droogfontein Community and Freshgrow was negotiated where maize, onions, potatoes and wheat are produced under pivot irrigation. Members of the Community are also being mentored in farm management in an effort to transfer certain skills to the Community. The project have already contributed to an increase in income and living standards of the Community members involved.
