MORE ABOUT MALU
Agriculture
Our Agricultural activities consist of irrigation with centre pivots using water from the Vaal River. As maize is the core ingredient of our pig feed, our aim is to produce as much as possible healthy maize for our pigs.
Abattoir
MALU Abattoir’s construction started in 1997 and June of 1998 the first 30 pigs were slaughtered. Currently we slaughter 400 pigs per day, which are dispatched on a daily basis to our loyal customers.
Feed Mill
In 2004 we decided to build our own feed mill to ensure that our pigs get the best possible feed by having full control over all the ingredients used. Our fully automated mixing system mixes about 55 tonnes of feed per day, one ton at a time, to an accuracy of 0.5%.
Piggeries
Piggeries in this day and age can almost be called an exact science. It is an absolute specialized farming activity that needs intense management and advanced systems to be able to be sustainable in the long term.
Malu Going Green
MALU’s production processes generate offal from the abattoir and mortalities from the piggeries. We decided to use this environmentally unfriendly offal and convert it into a product that can be used as organic fertilizer.
Quality
Guaranteed
Our customers are dear to our heart and that is the reason why we implemented strict food quality management systems. MALU has a full-time QA (Quality Assurance) Manager who has to ensure that we keep up with the standards on a day-to-day basis.
Healthy,
Happy Animals
MALU strives to have happy animals, who are looked after by our competent staff. Our Staff are being trained and evaluated on an ongoing basis to ensure that they are competent to handle our beloved animals humanely.
